HOW MANY TREATMENTS WILL I NEED?

Osteopathic treatment is tailored to suit each unique individual. It must be emphasised that some people will require more or less treatment before their symptoms improve, especially if the problem has been evident for some time.

WHAT SHOULD I BRING WITH ME?

Your osteopath will ask to see any X-rays, scans or test results. Your osteopath may ask you to undress to your underwear, therefore you may like to wear loose pants or bring a pair of shorts for comfort.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN OSTEO, CHIRO AND PHYSIO?

The Australian Osteopathic Association (AOA) states clearly on its website that it is “not the role of any health professional to try to define what another health care professional is, and what they do. If you want a definition, it would be best to ask people in those professions.”

HOW EFFECTIVE IS OSTEOPATHIC TREATMENT?

Government and medical studies over recent years have consistently shown osteopathy to be less expensive, use fewer drugs and have higher patient satisfaction than conventional medical care for back, neck and other musculoskeletal pain.

IS OSTEOPATHIC TREATMENT COVERED BY MY PRIVATE HEALTH FUND?

Yes. Like dental work, osteopathic treatment is covered under the ancillary or extras cover of major health insurers. Our Osteopaths are registered with all the major healthcare providers. With the HICAPS system, you receive an instant rebate and simply pay the gap. So there is no need to hold onto receipts.

IS OSTEOPATHIC TREATMENT COVERED BY MEDICARE?

Yes, Medicare covers osteopathic treatment for chronic conditions for eligible people. A chronic condition is one that has been evident for more than 6 months. To access Medicare funded osteopathy, you will need to speak to your GP about whether you are eligible for up to five discounted treatments each year. If eligible you must obtain a referral from your GP for an Enhanced Primary Care (EPC) plan. For more information about the EPC program talk to your Osteopath and your GP, go to the Medicare Australia website: www.medicare.gov.au, or call Medicare Australia on 132 011.

WHAT ABOUT MY CURRENT GYM OR EXERCISE PROGRAM?

Your practitioner will discuss your current program and suggest ways to modify it to suit your condition. They may also suggest certain stretching and strengthening exercises to address any deficiencies to ensure the best possible outcome for you.

IS OSTEOPATHIC TREATMENT SAFE?

Osteopathic treatment is generally considered safe but occasionally it may cause adverse reactions like some soreness in some people. The risks associated with osteopathic treatment are very low particularly when compared with the risks associated with taking pain-relieving medications. Your consent is required before any manipulation technique. We have a wide range of treatment approaches up our sleeve so we can provide you with very gentle no invasive treatment when we need to.
